Let’s talk about fear.
The fear that persecutes us and does not let us sleep at night. Fear of the performance.
I don’t know a single music that wouldn’t be nervous before the performance. This is completely normal. Do not think that you are the only person who is afraid to forget notes or that you are the only person who is afraid of the room and the audience.
You must accept the fact that no matter how many years you play or how much experience you have in occurrence, there will always be emotions.
Here are some tips that will help you overcome the fear of a concert or other public performance.
- Exercise as often as the athlete exercises before the Olympics. The more you practice, the more confident you feel.
- Make an audio recording of your game. It will help you understand what you have to work on and what to look for in your game.
- Give performances for friends and family. These mock public concerts will help you practice and teach you how to deal with anxiety.
- Meditating, it is good for everyone and the musicians are no exception here.
- Exercise. Yes, don’t be surprised, just remember how your body, shoulders and brain work hard. If you neglect the exercise, you just can’t play with full potential.
- Surround yourself with people who support you and believe you. Having positive, understanding people around you makes a big difference.
- During the performance, focus on what is important. Feeling the piano keys, the rhythm of the music and the emotions you want to convey. Try not to worry about what can happen or what others think.
